Andy Warhol Portfolios – A Life in Pop | Works from the Bank of America Collection
Andy Warhol is one of the central figures of the Pop art movement. He acquired fame through his work in many media, including painting, sculpture, filmmaking and publishing, but printmaking was always a central part of his art. This exhibition includes rare complete portfolios and individual prints by Warhol, starting with iconic works from the mid-1960s to the series of monoprints Vesuvius, created in 1985. Tradition Interrupted – This exhibition explores how artists weave contemporary ideas with traditional art and craft to create thought-provoking hybrid images and objects that have caught the world’s attention. The 12 artists in this show hail from every corner of the globe. From rugs and mosaics to metalworks and ceramics, they merge age-old art and craft customs with innovative techniques that interrupt tradition while collaborating with the past. United Arts Collier’s “Natural Reflections” runs April 30-July 25 at Rookery Bay Environmental Learning Center. The exhibit features UAC members’ interpretation of what in the environment’s ‘natural reflection’ has “a tendency to make one ponder and reflect.” Submissions of traditional two-dimensional media and photography were accepted. “Patterns of Change” opens May 3 in Kapnick Hall at Naples Botanical Garden. This juried exhibition features artwork created by members of The Batik Guild, a group of international artists whose work reflects environmental changes experienced or observed in their personal lives. A meet-and-greet with artist Catalina Espina from 10 a.m.-noon includes a demonstration of the centuries-old wax-resist dyeing technique. Included with garden admission.
