Celtic Throne explores the ancient origins of Irish step dance and celebrates the millennia-long journey of a music-and-dance-loving people as they migrate from the ancient Near East to Ireland, Scotland, England and the United States. Community Day – Artis—Naples hosts Spring Community Day, a free event from noon to 4 p.m. May 18 for families to explore everything Artis—Naples Simpson Cultural Campus offers. Activities include food trucks, an instrument petting zoo, face painting, balloon art and bilingual storytelling. :Magic Carpet Percussion at 11 a.m. and 12:15 p.m. This intimate performance by the percussion musicians of the Naples Philharmonic Orchestra includes up-close-and-personal instrument demonstrations. It is designed for kids ages 3-9 to learn fun facts about the percussion family of instruments like the maracas, guiro and drums.

 

¦ The Naples Philharmonic Youth Symphonia Spring Concert at 1 p.m. in Hayes Hall. Naples Philharmonic violinist Gregg Anderson directs.

 

¦ The Naples Philharmonic Youth Symphonia Chamber Ensembles Concert at 2 p.m. Some of the best young string musicians perform Mozart and Haydn under the direction of Gregg Anderson in the Signature Event Space.

 

¦ The Village School of Naples’ Knights of Steel perform on steel drums at 3 p.m. in the Rowe Performance and Learning Center.

 

¦ The Youth Chorus performs its Spring Concert at 4 p.m. in Hayes Hall, featuring more than 100 elementary through high school students led by the youth chorus director Barbara Sletto.

 

Young Jazz – Naples Philharmonic Youth Jazz Orchestra performs its Spring Concert at 3 p.m. May 19 in Daniels Pavilion. The Naples Philharmonic Side-by-Side Concert at 7 p.m. May 19 in Hayes Hall at Artis— Naples features the young musicians of the Naples Philharmonic Youth Orchestra playing side-by-side with musicians of the Naples Philharmonic. America Music – The Naples Philharmonic performs Patriotic Pops, a tribute to the music of America, at 8 p.m. May 23-24 in Hayes Hall at Artis—Naples. This special performance features vocalist Nikki Renée Daniels, the Naples Philharmonic Chorus under the direction of Jeremy T. Warner, and the Naples Philharmonic Youth Chorus under the direction of Barbara Sletto. The program conducted by Radu Paponiu is an all-American affair.
