If you have been curious about what life actually looks like in Southwest Florida on a typical weekend, this one is a good example. From free outdoor concerts to world-class theater to live music across the region, there is no shortage of reasons to be out and enjoying it.
Here is what is going on.
The Final Weekend of Beautiful: The Carole King Musical
Gulfshore Playhouse closes out its run of Beautiful: The Carole King Musical on Sunday, May 31, with a 3 p.m. matinee. If you have not seen this show, this is the last chance. It tells Carole King's story from her early years as a teenage songwriter to her rise as one of the most important voices of her generation, with hits like "You've Got a Friend" and "I Feel the Earth Move" woven throughout. Tickets run $44 to $154. Gulfshore Playhouse is at 100 Goodlette-Frank Road South, Naples. Visit gulfshoreplayhouse.org or call 239-261-7529.
Duane Betts and the Palmetto Motel at Arts Bonita
Saturday night is a good one for anyone who loves Southern rock. Duane Betts, son of Allman Brothers co-founder Dickey Betts, brings his blues-driven sound to Arts Bonita's Hinman Auditorium at 7:30 p.m. This is not a nostalgia act. It is a real band with real chops, drawing from the Allman Brothers tradition while adding its own voice. Tickets start at $59. Arts Bonita is at 10150 Bonita Beach Road, Bonita Springs. Visit artsbonita.org or call 239-495-8989.
Free Live Music at Mercato Saturday Night
The Reckless Saints play the Piazza at Mercato from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday as part of the Sounds on Strada series. It is one of the most popular early-evening outdoor concert spots in Naples, and with good reason. Dinner at any of the Mercato restaurants, drinks in hand, live music as the sun goes down. It costs nothing to attend.
Naples Philharmonic Free Chamber Concerts Friday
The Naples Philharmonic is performing free chamber concerts on Friday, May 29 at two locations: 2 p.m. at Naples United Church of Christ (5200 Crayton Rd.) and 7 p.m. at Norris Community Center (755 8th Ave. S.). The evening program features work by Daughtrey, Bartók, and Dvořák. This is the kind of thing Naples does that genuinely surprises people when they get here. Tickets are free. Visit artisnaples.org or call 239-597-1900.
Tropicana Park Opens in Cape Coral
Cape Coral opens Tropicana Park Friday morning at 10 a.m. — a new waterfront public space designed around outdoor recreation and water access, with kayak launches, beach areas, observation points, and fitness trails. It is part of a broader expansion of active, community-focused spaces along the water in Cape Coral. Worth knowing about if you spend time in that part of Southwest Florida.
A Full Saturday of Farmers Markets
Saturday morning brings farmers markets across the region. A few worth noting: Third Street South Farmers Market in Naples opens at 7:30 a.m. Vanderbilt Farmers Market at the Galleria Shoppes opens at 8:30 a.m. The Bonita Springs Farmers Market at the Promenade at Bonita Bay runs 8 a.m. to noon. These are not just markets. They are a social hour for the community, and they happen every single Saturday.
Live Music All Weekend
Live music in Southwest Florida this weekend runs from blues and rock to country to acoustic singer-songwriter sets. Friday night highlights include the Rewind Dance Band at The Stage in Bonita Springs, featuring tributes to Whitney Houston, Tina Turner, Mariah Carey, Etta James, Diana Ross, and Madonna. Saturday, the Alter Eagles Tribute Band plays The Stage. The Snook Inn on Marco Island has live music both nights. Dogtooth Sports Bar in Naples runs music Thursday through Sunday every week without fail.
Comedy This Weekend
Kennedy performs at Off the Hook Comedy Cafe in Naples Friday and Saturday. Eric DaSilva is at Snappers Comedy Cafe in Fort Myers both nights. If you have not been to either of these clubs, they are genuinely fun nights out. Off the Hook consistently books strong national touring acts.
Also Worth Knowing About This Weekend
The Collier County NAACP Juneteenth Celebration takes place Saturday from 1 to 5 p.m. at Golden Gate Community Center. This free, family-friendly event includes food, performances, vendors, and cultural activities ahead of the national celebration on June 19.
The Sounds of 1967 continues at Broadway Palm Dinner Theatre through June 20 — a musical trip through Motown, folk, and psychedelic rock set against the backdrop of a pivotal year in American music.
The RYCO Marine Boat Show and Tidewater Demo Day runs Friday and Saturday at Slipaway Food Truck Park and Marina. Guests can test-drive Tidewater models directly from the marina. It has more of a laid-back waterfront gathering feel than a traditional boat show.
Thinking About What Life Looks Like Here?
Southwest Florida is not a place people usually understand until they spend a weekend in it. The combination of weather, lifestyle, community, and access to genuinely good things to do is different from anywhere else. If you have been thinking about what it would mean to spend more time here, or whether a home in Naples or the surrounding area makes sense for where you are headed next, I am happy to talk through it.
No pitch. Just a real conversation.
